First Look LG G-Slate for T-Mobile Teaser Videos 2011

As expected, tablets are all the rage at this year’s CES, and it seems that practically everyone wants to have an Android tablet on the market as soon as possible.

While these tablets range in quality, one stand out is the LG G-Slate that’s coming to T-Mobile.

During T-Mobile’s keynote at CES, they teased us by briefly showing off the device that will run Android 3.0, Honeycomb on T-Mobile’s 4G network.

Neither T-Mobile nor LG has released final specs on the hardware yet or a definitive release date, but according to their press release, the tablet will be available “in the coming months.”

LG is dedicated to continuing its role as an innovation leader and is thrilled to announce its entry into the tablet marketplace with the G-Slate,” said Jeff Hwang, president of LG Mobile Phones. “Streamlining everyday tasks and enhancing entertainment with blazing fast 4G speed, the T-Mobile G-Slate by LG will deliver the latest in Android technology and provide users with an advanced tablet experience.”



The T-Mobile G-Slate will be among the first 4G tablets to fully benefit from the tablet-optimized Android 3.0 platform, which was designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes and addresses the unique aspects of tablet use cases and form factors. The Honeycomb user experience improves on Android favorites such as widgets, multi-tasking, browsing, notifications and customization. It will also feature the latest Google Mobile innovations including Google Maps™ 5.0 with 3D interaction, collection of more than 3 million eBooks and Google Talk™ with video and voice chat.

Verizon Samsung 4G LTE Smartphone Hands-On at CES 06 2011

Samsung LTE smartphone was announced, I strained my ears to hear exactly what it was called. All I got was “Samsung LTE *mumble mumble*”. I couldn’t understand what was being said, and as it turns out, whatever was said isn’t the actual name of this smartphone anyways. While it’s weird that there is no name currently attached to it, it’s still a swell device to ogle at. So in all its glory, here is the hands-on for the Samsung LTE TBA phone.

Here’s what we know so far about the new LTE handset. It has a 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus screen, uses Android 2.2, and packs a Hummingbird processor at 1 GHz as well as a 8 MP rear camera and 1.3 MP front camera. Not too shabby. And unlike the Samsung Galaxy S devices, the keys at the bottom are physical rather than touch-sensitive. This seems to be an interesting choice of design considering Samsung typically chooses the sleek and sexy look for their phones. It doesn’t mean it’s bad, but it is a movement away from their usual design routine. It’s a decent thickness; thicker than the Fascinate, but thinner than the Epic 4G.

This smartphone will come with Skype video chatting included, as well as the ability to use it as a 4G mobile hotspot. How well the Skype video calling will work remains to be seen, but we hope that the inclusion of LTE makes a significant difference in the video quality compared to standard 3G devices.

LG Revolución en su nueva red 4G de 2012

LG Revolution on Verizon Hands on at CES 2011

 at today’s press conference at CES 2011, and found a few goodies. Most of the specs have been made public now, but one that appeared to slip out of the woodwork is the presence of a Netflix app. Yes, Netflix on an Android device. And what better kind of device to use it on than one that runs faster than my internet connection at home?

So I was able to take a few pictures of the device without extra cables attached, and also check out the video below explaining the specs and the features. Hats off to the LG PR gentleman that did the demo, as he had never played with the phone before today.

In my hands, the 4.3″ screen didn’t feel so big. I remember when the EVO 4G first launched, and I held the phone in my hands thinking of how massive it really was. With the Revolution, though I may be used to holding such large phones, it still felt as though I was holding an equivalent phone with only 4″ screen. I was very impressed by how compact it felt for such a large phone. Most likely this is due to the concave style backing, making it comfortable to hold.

While it wasn’t a dual-core processor, the phone still felt speedy enough. We’ll have to wait until the final product and review to determine exactly how fast that is. No word on pricing or availability, though we do know that this will come out sometime between March and May.

RIM BlackBerry PlayBook Review 2011

The PlayBook has a 7 inch multitouch capacitive display with 1024 x 600 pixels (why, hello, Samsung Galaxy Tab) and runs the brand new BlackBerry Tablet OS, also announced today.

The tablet is, unsurprisingly, Adobe Flash 10.1 enabled, it has built in support for HTML 5, and RIM says it’s “ideal for games, media, apps and everything the real Internet offers.”

Of note is the 1 GHz dual-core processor of the tablet, and the inclusion of 1GB of RAM.

The PlayBook can be paired with a BlackBerry smartphone via secure Bluetooth connection for full access to Push technology, Email, calendar, BBM, documents, tasks and so on.

As for the BlackBerry Tablet OS, this is based on the QNX Neutrino microkernel architecture and thus it’s able to support “a professional grade tablet experience and to redefine the possibilities for mobile computing.”

Nokia Our first Windows Phone 2012

Nokia has confirmed that its first Windows Phone device will run with the new “Mango” build Microsoft has officially demonstrated today. “This is the software that will be used on the first Nokia with Windows Phone device,” the company’s official blog comments, “and so should be of keen interest to Nokia-watchers everywhere.”









“We are very excited about our strategic partnership with Microsoft, and Mango is a great milestone for the first Nokia with Windows Phone devices,” Jo Harlow, WVP for Smart Devices at Nokia reckons. “We believe Mango offers developers opportunities to create new mobile experiences leveraging both companies complementary assets while providing consumers with a new choice in mobile.”

According to the Nokia developer forum there’s help for would-be developers at the Community Wiki while the Projects site is already being populated.

“Rather than simply create one high-end device, Nokia plans to develop and release a portfolio of products that address as many of our audiences and markets as possible. Knowing that Windows Phone represents Nokia’s primary smartphone strategy, all of Nokia’s smartphone engineering resources are being prioritised to make the best hardware for the forthcoming Nokia with Windows Phone devices.  Nokia will work closely with Microsoft to differentiate its devices with Mango by featuring its iconic hardware and services, while applying consistent design principles for a unique look and feel.” Nokia

More iPhone 5 whispers this weekend, as speculation about the fifth-generation smartphone – already tipped to be an all-encompassing World Phone with perhaps even support for T-Mobile USA 3G – prompts a new mockup with a distinctly iPod touch flavor to it. Contrary to recent suggestions that the iPhone 5 would be similar in specs and design to the iPhone 4, This is my next is hearing that it will be “more like the iPod touch than the iPhone 4″ with a thinner chassis more akin to the MacBook Air in profile. 

They put together the mockup on the left – with what they admit is an over-exaggerated taper – and then Corey Daniels put together a more MBA-styled alternative, shown on the right. The home button has been enlarged, and now doubles as a gesture area, while the screen has grown to an expected 3.7-inches – with a 312 ppi pixel density, allowing Apple to continue using its Retina Display branding – with minimal bezel.

That could be the result of new bonded glass technology, minimizing the amount of extraneous space required, and perhaps even allowing Apple to put the earpiece and sensors behind the display itself. It’s not the only sensor shift tipped: there’s what’s marked in leaked (and unshown) diagrams as a “swipe area” on the bottom and/or top of the iPhone 5, which could well be an NFC sensor. Apple is believed to be working hard on NFC wireless payment technologies, though there has been argument over whether the system would show up in the fifth-gen phone.

World Phone support from a GSM/CDMA chip – like the Qualcomm Gobi MDM6600 inside the Verizon iPhone 4, which is currently locked to CDMA mode – also seems a lock-in, especially as it would open up the Chinese market too. In short, rather than a spec-bump, the iPhone 5 could well turn out to be pretty revolutionary
